How trees affect?

We work with 2 reforestation projects in Madagascar and Tanzania.to plant many species of trees including mangroves that are one of the most efficient carbon sequestering trees in the world and planting them provides much more than a carbon impact for our planet.

Driving

The average car uses about 404 grams of CO2 per mile. To translate from miles to kilometres, we divide miles by 1.609, and simultaneously divide grams by 1.609. This means the average car uses about 251 grams of C02 per kilometer.

If you are driving at 100km per hour for the duration of the trip, the drive would be 2,500km. In order to get the total grams of CO2 we multiply 251grams by 2,500km by 2 ways.

251 grams per kilometer x 2500 km x 2 ways = 1,255,000 grams CO2

To get from grams to metric tons we use the conversion factor 0.000001and get 0.6024 MT CO2.

Flights

We are going to assume your domestic flight is across the country, so 5,000 km one way, and 10,000 kilometres both ways.

Planes emit 115g CO2 per kilometer. We use the conversion factor 0.000001 to get from grams to metric tons and we get 0.000115 MT of CO2 per kilometer of air travel.

115grams x 0.000001 = 0.000115 MT CO2

A domestic flight would be a 10,000km round trip. Since each kilometer emits 0.000115 MT CO2, we multiply this by the total number of kilometres and get a total of 1.15 MT CO2.

10,000 km x 0.000115 MT CO2 = 1.15 MT CO2

Christmas Lighting

The average household’s footprint from lighting their home and running their appliances for a year is 1800 kg of CO2. A house with very extravagant Christmas lighting can increase the footprint by 500 kg per household.

In order to change this number from kilograms of CO2 to metric tons of CO2 we use the conversion factor 0.001.

500 Kg CO2 x 0.001= 0.5 MT CO2

Christmas Food

Christmas dinner will result in a mountain of raw vegetable waste – the shells of approximately 240 million Brussels sprouts and the peelings of 105 million potatoes, 20 million parsnips and 30 million carrots. The average person will produce 26 kg of CO2 from the food they consume during the Christmas period.

In order to change this number from kilograms of CO2 to metric tons of CO2 we use the conversion factor 0.001.

26 Kg CO2 x 0.001= 0.026 MT CO2

Assuming a food table for 10 people we multiply 0.026 MT Co2 by 10

0.026 MT CO2 x 10= 0.26 MT CO2

Total : 0,026 Mt Co2

Christmas Shopping

This year each person will spend an average $534 on Christmas gifts, of which, the most popular choices will be clothes, books, films, music, cosmetics and fragrances. Spending £534 on these items means 310 kg of CO2/person – about 20 per cent of the average yearly consumable footprint of 1,500 kg

In order to change this number from kilograms of CO2 to metric tons of CO2 we use the conversion factor 0.001.

310 Kg CO2 x 0.001= 0.31 MT CO2

Then, we should consider 10 people in the Christmas dinner exchanging gifts, so we do multiply 0.31 MT CO2 by 10.

0.31 MT CO2 x 10 people= 3.1 MT CO2

Total

In total a couple would emit 2.51 MT CO2 per celebration.
