Our Reforestation Projects
Eden Reforestation Projects, Madagascar
Deforestation poses a major problem in Madagascar. The loss of habitats and the concentration of unique species worsen the situation. To tackle this issue, Eden Reforestation Projects initiated the Madagascar Reforestation Project. Its main goal is to address the widespread depletion of mangroves and upland forests.

Unlike most trees, mangroves don’t drop seeds—they release propagules, which are live seedlings that begin growing while still attached to the parent tree. Once mature, they fall into the water and float until they find the right spot to root and grow. This unique adaptation helps mangroves spread across coastal environments, stabilize shorelines, and restore degraded areas naturally.

Oustalet’s Chameleon (Furcifer oustaleti) is one of the largest chameleon species in the world and is native to Madagascar. While not exclusive to mangroves, it can often be found near these ecosystems, where it plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance by controlling insect populations.

This little guy is a mudskipper—part fish, part land explorer. Found in healthy mangrove ecosystems like those in Madagascar, mudskippers can breathe through their skin and even “walk” on land using their fins. Their presence is a great sign that the mangroves are thriving.

Did you know? Mangroves can survive in saltwater by filtering out up to 90% of the salt through their roots—or excreting it through their leaves. It’s one of the reasons they thrive along Madagascar’s coasts where few other trees can.

Usambara Biodiversity Conservation, Tanzania
To prevent the unsustainable illegal use of reserves in the Usambara Mountains, we must ensure sufficient availability of trees for the communities.

In our field there is nothing so inspiring than to see the results of a reforestation or restoration project, where the landscape, the wildlife and the daily life of the local community has been transformed in less than a decade. It’s especially heartening to see how much the local community is invested in these projects, understanding the critical value of ecosystem restoration to their livelihoods, and benefiting in economic, financial and social terms.

WOMEN Environmental degradation and gender inequality stem from shared dominant power structures. Gender equity and women’s empowerment are deeply embedded in all our work and are essential to sustainable climate solutions.

RESTORE & REFOREST. We are value-led. Our approach and impact go far beyond the number of trees in the ground. They intend to rebalance power dynamics, support connections with Nature, empower Men and women, and champion the knowledge of those working directly with the natural environment they inhabit. All while reforesting and restoring our incredible natural world;
